I know yesterday and the day before I had far too short posts, so I intend to make up for it today with loads and loads of great 1840's images ie everything from real garments to photos and jewelry and shoes and everything a girl could need back then, so lets sit back and enjoy the 1840's :)
Tin type photo of a beauty of the day this lady is wearing a great bonnet and black Chantilly lace shawl picture is from around 1847-49.
White muslin floral print dress with gathered princess waist, I just love this dress and wish it was mine this dresss is from around 1844-48.
Wonderful stripped silk gown from exactly 1840 this grand gown buttons up in the back and is in great condition, and yep I want it :)
Wonderful gorgeous cream colored silk taffeta dress with pleated collar and unique fabric clasp at the top of the collar that reminds me of mens buckle clasps at there breaches back in the 1700's, and I dare say thats where the idea of this fabric clasp came from. People have always incorporated older styles and looks into new things and I have always thought that was great :) I also love the super tiny princess waist on the bodice. Here there is a lot of boning to get this tiny look, let me tell you. This grand gown is from around 1844-48, and yep I want it :)
Wonderful beige silk brocade with hook and eye closer in the back and it laces up in the front, this great dress is from around 1842-44 and I wish it was mine :)
Wonderful white knee high sock with lace and embroidery, the most interesting thing is that it was original embroidered in 1842 but then the lady who made these deiced to add the next year on there as she added with red silk embroidery thread 43, it might have been that these where her wedding stockings and that to commemorate her one year anniversary she embroidered the year 43 on there, thats a thought, but wither it was for that or some important date what is for sure is that she felt it was necessary to embroidery the year 43 on there.
Hand woven straw bonnet with silk stripped ribbon trim this awesome bonnet is from around 1840-45,and a interesting thing is that young ladies would often buy different trims for there bonnets to decorate it themselves and this trend you can find as far back as the 1790's and it stayed for awhile, see you could often buy a plain straw bonnet or straw brimmed hat and get all kinds of trims at milliners shops, now don't get me wrong you could always get premade hats or bonnets, but you could make up your own things too :)
White muslin print day dress this dress would have been perfect for summer time this great dress is from around 1846-49.
Black lace fingerless mitts from around 1840-45, I have always thought mitts like these and gloves are just so nice, I kind of wish they had never gone out of style, but sigh they did :( But now you can find some in the magazine Victorian Trading Co They always have lots of them :)
Brown silk embroidery drawstring purse this lovely purse is from around 1842-45.
Awesome wonderful brown silk top with princess waist the way this top is cut and sewn gives any wearer of it a very slimming affect, thats one of the things thats so nice about the past they sewed gowns for real women not sticks and they knew how to make anyone look grand :) And this is one of those tops, top is from around 1842-47, and I want it :)
Awesome plum colored silk dress with pleated collar and awesome princess waist this great outfit s from around 1843-45.
Awesome gold earring and amethysts these are made in 15 kt gold as gold did not have a set slandered back then so you see all kinds of kts, just a little side fact. Now these are from around 1840-45.
Awesome hand colored fashion print of the newest style or at least back then, this one is from around 1845-48.
Well thats it for todays post I hope I kind of made up for yesterday and the day before :)
