Ah the 1840's and all the elegance of the time :)

I know yesterday and the day before I had far too short posts, so I intend to make up for it today with loads and loads of great 1840's images ie everything from real garments to photos and jewelry and shoes and everything a girl could need back then, so lets sit back and enjoy the 1840's :)

Wonderful gorgeous cream colored silk taffeta dress with pleated collar and unique fabric clasp at the top of the collar that reminds me of mens buckle clasps at there breaches back in the 1700's, and I dare say thats where the idea of this fabric clasp came from. People have always incorporated older styles and looks into new things and I have always thought that was great :) I also love the super tiny princess waist on the bodice. Here there is a lot of boning to get this tiny look, let me tell you. This grand gown is from around 1844-48, and yep I want it :)

Wonderful white knee high sock with lace and embroidery, the most interesting thing is that it was original embroidered in 1842 but then the lady who made these deiced to add the next year on there as she added with red silk embroidery thread 43, it might have been that these where her wedding stockings and that to commemorate her one year anniversary she embroidered the year 43 on there, thats a thought, but wither it was for that or some important date what is for sure is that she felt it was necessary to embroidery the year 43 on there.

Hand woven straw bonnet with silk stripped ribbon trim this awesome bonnet is from around 1840-45,and a interesting thing is that young ladies would often buy different trims for there bonnets to decorate it themselves and this trend you can find as far back as the 1790's and it stayed for awhile, see you could often buy a plain straw bonnet or straw brimmed hat and get all kinds of trims at milliners shops, now don't get me wrong you could always get premade hats or bonnets, but you could make up your own things too :)
